The word panagia roughly translates to ‘Virgin Mary’, the mother of Jesus and hence it is a small picturesque church of Virgin Mary located a short distance away from Moni. It is also one of the Naxo’s oldest tourist attractions in the city. Being a part of an old monastery, the place has got a unique architectural style, decked with stone walls, attic and chapels. The three-part attic and the chapels are roofed over with a dome adding to the magnificence of it. You will also find some old frescoes dating back to the 6th century.
