Makah Museum, which is also known as the Makah Cultural and Research Center, is a great place if you want to get a glimpse of the past. This museum houses a number of artifacts that were recovered from the Ozette Indian Village Archeological Site. It was a small village that was partially buried by a mudslide in 1750. So, the objects recovered from this village will give you an idea of how tribal community used to live.
Makah Museum Reviews & Ratings
This museum is a treasure! Beautifully designed and laid out introduction to the traditions of the Makah. I loved the way the topics were arranged to follow the activities of the Makah through the seasons of the year. Also the fact that the Makah were deeply involved with the museum as a way to showcase and preserve their culture and pass on their language and traditions to their own children. I found myself wanting to read every label, which I confess is rarely the case. Pictures are not allowed by request of the Makah, so you will have to go and see for yourself!
The museum itself has unique pieces of indian culture. Unfortunately it is poorly explained. I wish they had more information about their legends and rites.
