Nelson’s climate has been described as Mediterranean. If you’re thinking blue waters, balmy breezes and wine-soaked hills, you got it right. It’s the sunniest place in the country, so camping is wonderful. Winters can get chilly at night (2 degrees Celsius) but otherwise the temperatures are extremely pleasant. Summer heat never rises beyond 23 degrees Celsius. Summer is the most popular time to visit, so book your tours early. It’s not likely to be crowded to though so don’t worry. Our recommendation though: visit in January; it’s a lively month.
