Christ Church Cathedral - Review

The Anglican Church looms over Nelson from the top of the hill in the middle of the city. It was finished in 1965. I’s unusual colour comes from the marble that went into it’s making, from Pakikiruna near Takaka Hill. It’s not large, not is it particularly grand; rather, it’s beaut lies in the serenity it imparts to every visitor. Visit during the service, and you’ll find the choir to be most soothing. The architecture is a mix of traditional and contemporary. Not the stain glass windows too. Another feature rather surprising to find here is the labyrinth. If you want to go through this place, the staff s generally very helpful and informative.

Christ Church Cathedral, Nelson Reviews

  • The cathedral in Nelson, located on top of the hill at the end of the shopping area. The outside looks a little bit dull, but the inside looks great with a glowing blue ambiance from the stone. Inside you'll also find the suspended air organ that looks amazing especially with the mix of nice polished wood with blue-ish pipes.

  • High on the Hill at the end of the main shopping area surrounded by beautiful gardens but this is actually the back view. Lots of steps to the top & it was open. They had left their Christmas tree's from a competition still on display lots of hard work from a lot of dedicated people. Plenty of interesting articles situated throughout inside & out informing you of the history of the cathedral & people of Nelson.

  • Yep it's an old church, yep stained glass windows. Other than that much the same as many othrs. A few bits of information around the church but all of this lacked anything special. Seen hundreds of churches now and looking for something different that makes it a place to see.

  • Christ Church Cathedral, not to be confused with the cathedral of the same name in Christchurch, is an amazingly beautiful building which gives off such a deep feeling of peace. Love this place!

  • A beautiful yet unique church in nestled in a picturesque location.
