State Theatre New Jersey at New Brunswick was built in 1921. Though the theater could not be saved from the ravages of time and was in the state of neglect in the 1970s, it has been renovated today. With a sitting capacity of 1,800 spectators, it hosts performances by national as well as international performers. They also arrange numerous educational programs and workshops to reach more people. State Theatre Reviews & Ratings
Awesome venue with the perfect size and a great sound system. HOWEVER, the no video policy was pretty annoying. The staff militantly enforces it and would shine bright LED flashlights at anybody who held their phone up to take a video. Really detracted from my concert experience last night.
Good acoustic and visibility from seats, but they are so cramped. It's not the best theatre I've been, maybe because I am more used to national ones instead of local ones. For me it was new to be able to take snacks and beverages with me into the room. The staff is very kind, nice, and always ready to help. They do a good job. There's no parking available, so the option is to pay in a parking lot one block away. $10 for 4 hours in my case.
Love all the performances. They bring great artists. Awesome place to bring little ones to enjoy music/theather shows.
The State Theatre of New Jersey is a must visit! The size of the venue is just cozy enough for an intimate theatrical experience without feeling claustrophobic and no matter if you are in the balcony or the back row there isn't a bad seat in the house! Too many award winning shows to name take the stage to name; an eclectic mix of options for all tastes and ages. Check out the listings and you are sure to find something that appeals to your sensibilities on any budget.
Beautiful old theater in the heart of New Brunswick (so have to walk to and pay for parking). Nice that food and beverages are permitted in the theater (alas no cup holders tho). Enjoyed that there were different options for alcoholic beverages and I enjoyed my frozen margarita! Chicago was wonderful production.
