The Edgerton Park was originally owned by Eli Whitney. Eli Whitney’s nieces lived here in a home called the ‘Ivy nook’ that was later torn down to built a mansion named Edgerton for Frederick F. Brewster. This mansion was demolished but its name stayed and along with much of the heritage land being preserved, today, the park has become synonymous to the city’s history! The current design of the 20-acre park dates back to 1909 and was designed by Robert Storer Stephenson. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is by far one of the most loved green spaces in New Haven! The sprawling landscape with trees that are older than a hundred years, a number of greenhouses, a carriage house, a fountain and a conservatory- all make a visit here, a refreshing change from the urban hangouts. The Elm Shakespeare Company is popular for holding their summer performances here since 1995 while seeing the orchids at the Sarah T. Crosby Conservatory, is a highlight on its own. On a casual day, people love to come here to soak up the sun and to feel one with nature while the trending events make it a popular cultural hub too.

  • We don't live in New Haven but we often work in the park shooting weddings. The park is an Oasis and a great place to walk (the dog) and just chill. They have a community garden you can walk through with some amazing plants, flowers and vegetables. It's not a large park but it's very well maintained and if you venture outside down the street are some amazing homes to view.

  • Attended a folk music festival at Edgerton park and it was lovely. I haven't been there for years and had forgotten what a wonderful park it is. Expansive lawns and nice paths. I wandered through the community garden as well as the greenhouses. Such a great variety of plants.

  • Great place to walk in. It's really big and it's great to bring dogs for a walk. Its awesome that the hold many free events. Also it's nice that it has a greenhouse.

  • A beautiful and secluded park that is much bigger than it looks like from the streets (where you can’t see much behind the walls). It has pretty fountains and manicured lawns, but it also has lots of wild and free nature too. On the northwest corner there are chickens, which are fun to see. In the other corner there is a beautiful garden and greenhouse.

  • This is a great Urban Park. Set on the grounds of what was watch the actress in the state, the greenhouses which that family wants maintained are still in use. The rest of the space is open for walking or just relaxing. Stop in at the greenhouse and see what plans they have for sale
