The Yale Repertory theatre is part of the Yale School of Drama and since 1966 it has produced over 100 shows! Some of them have even won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize! The in-house production team, called the Seventeen Yale Rep productions, is know for its tremendous work in Broadway, winning an astounding 40 Tony Award nomination and 10 Tony Awards.
After its establishment in the 1960’s, Robert Brustein, the head of the theatre, brought professional actors from all around the world to Yale each year to form a repertory company. He valued and nurtured talented new authors (the long list of names include Christopher Durang) and soon he formed an impeccable mix of brilliant writing and stunning performers who would reinvent the idea of theatre not just in the country but in the world.
The theatre occupies what was formerly known as the Calvary Baptist Church its original architecture is seamlessly maintained by the city. Throughout its history, the theatre has been one of the favourite haunts for Broadway and theatre lovers and even today, catching a show here is sure to take your breath away!
