Melba's Old School Po Boys, New Orleans Reviews

  • The food is solid but the chicken could have been better. My friend LOVED the gumbo though. Lots of variety for food. Best part of experience is it is open 24/7 and always has daqiuris available for a good price. They also taste good. I’d consider it a must visit.

  • This place is great but the experience here depends purely on how busy it is. It use to be my go to lunch spot while I was doing laundry in the attached laundry mat. The shrimp poboy is a solid meal that will easily fill you up, same with the fried catfish and shrimp platter. I've not had ice cream or a daiquiri from there in a very long time, so I cannot speak for those... But my friends like em. It's a New Orleans staple, I would not go out of the way for this, but if you are in the area and looking for a bite, or it's 2am, it's worth your consideration.

  • Breakfast Meeting Met a good friend for a breakfast meeting. He suggested we meet at Melba's. He ordered bread pudding. I ordered a breakfast. He said the bread pudding was delicious. I must say that my breakfast was tasty and filling. I enjoyed our meeting and I certainly would recommend this place for those living in the neighborhood or would like to drive there. Enjoy.

  • You gotta try the corn and grits. They also have a pudding bread that's gigantic and delicious. They serve all kinds of stuff. Very good food. They open super late. I'd definitely go again.

  • This place makes the best red beans and rice that i have ever had in my life. The cornbread grits were spectacular and it was my first time trying it. I recommend these in tandem, grab some of the grits and dip it in the res beans and rice. I also liked the fried chicken it had a little kick to it but not too much. We arrived late on the plane and this place was open late so you can't miss out.
