New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park Reviews & Ratings
Only in New Orleans could there be a National Park for jazz! We found this visitor centre completely by accident on our first morning in New Orleans as we headed down to the French market. Seeing people disappear inside to the small downstairs concert room and a couple of guys setting up on stage we decided to join them and sat down not knowing what was going to happen. What happened was that we were treated to a fascinating 45 minutes as two accomplished musicians in the form of uniformed park rangers went through the history of NOLA Jazz and the different Jazz styles and how they were formed. And then later on in the week we were lucky to catch a concert in the concert hall on the third floor of the New Orleans Jazz Museum, which has its own Trip Advisor Music venue listing.
Small. But what a unique experience. I would highly recommend to visit on Saturdays, noon to 1 PM. They have classes for kids (adults can join in as well) that teaches the roots of the Jazz music. I really enjoyed it. The instructor was pretty knowledgeable.
Must check out artist alley. Great opportunity to listen to local jazz musicians.
So much history! Well done as far as museums go
The Ranger talk was excellent. I highly recommend for anyone who has a passion for music and a MUST for fans of Jazz. Check the schedule for free concerts!
