The Mahalia Jackson Theatre of the Performing Arts is named after the ‘Queen of Gospel’- Mahalia Jackson, who was born in New Orleans. The Hurricane Katrina took its toll on the theatre and was filled with 14 feet of water. After 4 years, the theatre was opened again in 2009 and since then has been one of the Broadway venues in the city.
Before the Hurricane hit the city, the place was used as the New Orleans Opera Association and the New Orleans Ballet Association, held occasional performances by the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and was also the home of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra for around ten years.
Today, the theatre offers iconic shows and is a major landmark that adds to the heritage value of New Orleans.

The Mahalia Jackson Theatre Of The Performing Arts Reviews & Ratings
The wife and I went to see our first Opra and I can say there isn't a bad seat in the house! We were in the top balcony on the far left and we could see and hear everything perfectly. My only complaint was the bathroom situation seemed like it was an afterthought they were poorly designed and not convient at all! Also the concessions weren't easily accessible to those of us up high! All in all it was a very enjoyable experience, I might even consider going to another one!
I love this theater. It is HUGE, wide aisle, handicapped accessible. Friendly staff members. Clean inside and great acoustics.
Not a bad seat in the house. The only downfall was the service for the bar, definitely need to consider hiring nore staff for the events.
The Opera production of Carmen was magnificent sets , costumes and the Most Amazing cast! Bravo and Brava
A beautiful structure. Very elegant. And organized parking
