About The Mahalia Jackson Theatre Of The Performing Arts, New Orleans
The Mahalia Jackson Theatre of the Performing Arts is named after the ‘Queen of Gospel’- Mahalia Jackson, who was born in New Orleans. The Hurricane Katrina took its toll on the theatre and was filled with 14 feet of water. After 4 years, the theatre was opened again in 2009 and since then has been one of the Broadway venues in the city.
Before the Hurricane hit the city, the place was used as the New Orleans Opera Association and the New Orleans Ballet Association, held occasional performances by the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and was also the home of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra for around ten years.
Today, the theatre offers iconic shows and is a major landmark that adds to the heritage value of New Orleans.

The Mahalia Jackson Theatre Of The Performing Arts, New Orleans Reviews - Write a Review
Nice staff and reasonable prices, everything you will need is a short walk away, so no need to drive anywhere.
I can't believe security let that guy walk on stage during Louis CK's show. The guy was walking really slow and reached the center stage and stayed there for a whole 6 seconds before security even noticed. The guy with the spotlight noticed before security did. The security didn't even check my purse when I entered. I opened it and they told me I was good. I just stared at them and as a courtesy opened my jacket pockets and went to show them the rest of my purse pockets buy they just told me it was fine. They didn't even use the metal detector. I'm so dissapointed.
Fantastically beautiful venue. The sound of live music is great. The ushers are friendly and personable but also take their jobs seriously and are genuinely concerned for the experience and safety of their guests.
Great Venue for my 11 year olds dance recital !
I love the acoustics and the convenient seating. I, being not very tall, was able to see over the person in front of me for the first time.
