The Mahalia Jackson Theatre Of The Performing Arts - Review
The Mahalia Jackson Theatre of the Performing Arts is named after the ‘Queen of Gospel’- Mahalia Jackson, who was born in New Orleans. The Hurricane Katrina took its toll on the theatre and was filled with 14 feet of water. After 4 years, the theatre was opened again in 2009 and since then has been one of the Broadway venues in the city.
Before the Hurricane hit the city, the place was used as the New Orleans Opera Association and the New Orleans Ballet Association, held occasional performances by the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and was also the home of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra for around ten years.
Today, the theatre offers iconic shows and is a major landmark that adds to the heritage value of New Orleans.

The Mahalia Jackson Theatre Of The Performing Arts, New Orleans Reviews
Saw a great show there but it's horrible the way they have it set up for drink/snack service. And since you can't take it in to some of the shows, you may have to suck it down. I do like the seating tho, because the way it's set up, nobody can block your view.
Mahalia Jackson Theater is a beautiful facility however the acoustics for opera are not even. We were in the 2nd row of the upper balcony and I did not feel the voice clarity was that good. I would definitely sit further down in the future. Also, the stairs in the balcony are rather steep and completely without railings. This absolutely unsafe for anyone older or with mobility or balance issues. I will never sit in that area again just because of the lack railing.
Saw the band Evanescence live with a full orchestra. It was the second time we saw the band in concert, the first time was 5 years ago at the Hard Rock casino in Biloxi ms. The first concert was traditional rock and roll with no orchestra. The second time we saw the band Evanescence it was with an orchestra. We got to meet and greet the band before the concert. They were very friendly. The facility was good for a small scale concert. We sat on the front row so it helped that no one was in front of us. The VIP package was well worth the price, front row seats with a meet and greet plus a champagne toast with the band. We meet some people from Norway, they were very sweet. I would recommend the concert and facilities.
Great place for a recital. Good Seating and adequate parking. Staff is helpful. Concessions are a bit pricey.
Theatre itself was beautiful....on the inside. The outside needs a lot of maintenance that hasn't been done. The grounds surrounding it are in poor poor shape. Lots of trash that could easily be cleaned. Disappointing.
