Located opposite to the Jackson square and overlooking the mighty Mississippi river, the Washington Artillery Park was the official training ground of Washington Artillery. The monument of the cannon is a model 1861 Parrot Rifle used in the Civil War. The training grounds were established in the 1830’s and mark an important chapter in defence training in New Orleans. Today the park is loved for its view and for the monument which overlooks the gorgeous river.

  • I really enjoyed the area. It was so much to do, eat, and see in just one area that I stayed there for hours. I topped off my experience by riding the street car through uptown New Orleans for only $3 round trip. So, that’s my positive. The other side of that is that there are people who try get money from you when you don’t ask for their shoe sign service. This guy told me, “I bet you that I can tell you exactly where you got your shoes.” He started rhyming and saying he can tell me the exact place and city. Then He says you got your shoes on your feet right here in front of me. He unexpectedly and without my permission poured a gel on my shoe and started to clean my shoe. Side Note, the shoes look good now.

  • This is a fantastic place to visit during the sunset. You can enjoy a great view of the river and the Jackson Square with the Saint Louis Church as background. If you are lucky then some musician could be performing some instrument and you can enjoy the music and the landscape. Many tourists from everywhere. Don't forget to take great pictures.

  • Fun place to see especially at night. Great view of the Mississippi (and the river boats) and Jackson Square and Saint Louis Cathedral.

  • Come by here if you’re touring around!! Many performers, a great view. Just know if someone asks you they know where you got your shoes, the answer is: On your feet.

  • Great rest on your walking tour of NOLA
