Basta Pasta, New York City Reviews - Write a Review
Well I called for a reservation for table of 4 on a Monday night at 7pm which is not necessary. it's a quick process thou. Arriving on the dot, this place is very cozy and perfect for that date and gathering with old friends. We were here for the latter. Wine by the bottle is pretty decent prices and great quality. Their main dishes are the pasta. We order four kinda from ravioli, ink pasta, that famous wheel pasta and one I don't remember. All are delicious but very heavy on the cheese. Dessert is a bit disappointing with their volcano with no lava. Service can be great but I felt a bit rushed by the waiter. It's a bit hit or miss.
Great pasta place love the parmesan dishes. Good service but it can get crowded. Tip: plan your visit as the line forms by the bar and it can take some time to get seated. The pasta dishes are consistently good as are the specials. There is limited wine selection but the offerings are generally reasonably priced and good.
The sea urchin linguine & Parmigiano spaghetti were delicious, but I had to give a low scores because the service & server's attitude were lacking. The waiter forgot one of the 5 dishes we ordered and my friend had to wait for a good 15 min before receiving her order. We were not big eater, but we ordered a main dish each and 2 desserts to shares. Because we refused to ordered appetizers, alcohol drinks, and coffee, the waiter were making faces at us. It is fair to mandate each customer to order an item each, but it is up to us what we want to eat or drink. Not everyone loves to drink alcohol. Some of people are allergic to it. We didn't make any outrageous demand. The waiter get away with his disrespectful attitude because there is a mandated 18% service charge for 5 or more people. I worked as waitress in college as well and I support bad service = bad tips.
Good place for a team work lunch, can seat many people and food is good. They were able to seat a group of 11 immediately at noon. Our group mostly all got the price-fixed lunch and everyone liked what they got.
I honestly had one of the best meals I've ever had! If you are deciding whether to go here or not, definitely go! The atmosphere was classy, but comfortable and just overall lovely. And the food was amazing! I had the proshuto pasta, and they made it in a cheese wheel right at my table. It was quite an experience! Also, the Bolognese is absolutely amazing! So, nice people, nice atmosphere, and delicious food. I would definitely recommend.
