About Forest Hills Stadium, New York City

The West Side Tennis Club is a private tennis club located in Forest Hills, a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens. The Club has 38 tennis courts in all four surfaces (clay court, Har-Tru, grass court and hardcourt), a junior Olympic-size swimming pool and other amenities. It is the home of the Forest Hills Stadium, a 14,000 seat outdoor tennis stadium and concert venue. It is most notable for hosting the U.S. National Championships, renamed the US Open Tennis Championships in 1968, a total of 60 times, first from 1915 to 1920, and then again from 1924 to 1977. In addition, the finals of the Davis Cup were held at the club 10 times, more than any other venue. The US Pro tournament was held at the venue 11 times, and another big professional tournament, the Tournament of Champions, was held at the venue 3 times. The West Side Tennis Club was the venue of the Forest Hills Tennis Classic, a now-defunct WTA Tour Tier IV event, and a men's challenger event. The Open saw some of its biggest moments and changes while at West Side, including the introduction of seedings in 1927, tiebreakers in 1970, equal prize money for men and women in 1973, and night play in 1975. Currently, the stadium is used as an outdoor concert venue.

  • Great venue. A bit of a walk to the entrance from subway, but it's a nice one. Super quick getting in if you don't bring a big bag that they have to search. Staff very friendly. concert sounded great! Even the Port-a-potties didn't have a wait! Lots of vendors, so lines aren't too long.

  • Great venue. Small enough to not be lost in a gigantic crowd like bigger venues, but big enough to hold a whole lot of people. Outdoors, so it's weather dependent, but given a nice night, it's amazing. Been here for a few concerts and once you're in you are good to go. The wait line to get in however was a little ridiculous, and people were cutting lines left and right bc there was no enforcement, but we waited an hour to get through security. Lots of different options for food, mostly fried fast foods type stuff regardless. Overpriced drinks, but kind of expected at any concert venue.

  • I saw Interpol here on the 23rd of Saturday. It's on outdoor venue, where they use to hold the US open. It's in the middle of the suburbs in Queens, so there's a strict curfew. It's a great summer time/early fall venue, with decent acoustics. My main issue with this venue is the curfew. Interpol was ready to play a bit more but they were cut off due to this strictly enforced curfew. I understand because it's in the middle of residential housing, but when you're watching your favorite band it's a bummer.

  • Amazing, so hipster. If you like hipsters, you'll love this place. It's got fake hedges and grass everywhere. I took a small piece of a hedge home on my way back from The National, i keep it in my room because it's beautiful. It's a small intimate stadium which sounds weird and it is weird but it's nice!

  • Tons of bathrooms and ample signage for ADA seating. Really cool venue for warm weather- mind you, it's a tennis stadium with no cover so it's totally exposed to the elements. If you catch a great weather day like we did, it's a gorgeous setting and you get to enjoy a concert in the same stadium that greats like the Beatles,Paul Simon, and Streisand have played.
