Governors Island is 172 acre land situated very close to Lower Manhattan and even closer to Brooklyn. Initially used as a military camp, this island is now looked after by the government and is open for activities for the public. Although it is not open all year round, when it is- it offers various open spaces to the public to have a great time. It is being constantly worked upon and 30 new acres were made accessible to the public in 2014. There are various things to do here and if you happen to visit during the working season, then you should definitely make it a point to visit there.
