Hofstra University is Long Island’s largest private college. Formerly part of the NYU, it was originally called Nassau College – Hofstra Memorial of New York University at Hempstead, Long Island. While the establishment dates back to 1935, it was in 1939 that it separated from NYU to be an independent institute.
