The Shuberts realized that New York needed a place solely dedicated to musical theater hits and hence Imperial Theatre was born. A replacement to their old lyric theatre, Imperial served as the 50 th venue for the Shuberts in the city of New York. The Imperial Theater was designed by Herbert Krapp in his trademark Adam-style and was one of his many creations for the Shuberts. The ornamental panels; the recessed ceiling and that grace the walls are elaborately decorated with a number of motifs, including geometrics and florals. The rectangular auditorium is more in width than in depth, which gives a feeling to most audience members of being really close to the performers and the stage.

  • Very nice theater. I almost had enough room in the orchestra seats. The show was very cheesy but if you're a big Ruben & Clay fan you're going to love the Christmas songs, corny jokes, minimal staging, and limited singing talents of both stars. The five additional singers and theater performers were, in my humble opinion, much more talented. My only real complaint was the fact that they opened the doors to the street to assist in exiting the 1,400 seat theater which wasn't necessary since they had lest than 700 inside. I will say it was only the second night of a three week engagement but I did expect more stage presence from both considering they've been doing this for 15 years.

  • Great spot! Old school theater. Seats are tight but shows are great! Fast exits from both sides of the theater. A really nice spot all in all!

  • Most incredible Broadway show I've seen in ten years. No special effects just pure, unbelievable talent. (But yes, the set was truly amazing especially how they create the carousel with set pieces, lighting and choreography.) Very entertained by the usher on the mezzanine barking at everyone to "walk slowly!" It is a very steep stair case so that was much appreciated!

  • Centrally located theater in Times Square. Came here to watch Carousel. Sat in center front mezzanine and had a great view. Show was amazing and seats were comfortable. There were no elevators as far as I could see. Since some seats were empty they let us move to seats closer up front.

  • The seats are very small really child like and the rows are really tight, but it's a nice theater
