McSorley's Old Ale House is a bar located in the East Village of New York City. Established in 1854, this is one of New York’s oldest operational pubs. Author Joseph Mitchell described the ale here as “A rich, wax-colour.” Like a typical New Yorker likes it, the ale here is half-full beers and sleeves of saltines. The place is comfortable, cosy, and intimate and will make you fall in love with New York a little bit more.

  • They have only light and dark beer options and a few food options but everything here is super cool and awesome! Cool and quick staff with happening vibes. You will definitely come out happy. Absolutely loved this place!

  • Great old bar in Manhattan. It’s one of the oldest bars in New York. It severs just two types of beers:dark and light. Great place to see a historic bar and enjoy it with your friends. They also have some food options if you are hungry. It’s cash only so make sure you have cash to pay for the beers.

  • Nice oldstyle bar in the East village of Manhattan. I believe it is the oldest bar of NYC. Serves small beers, but when we were there it was buy 1 get 1 free. Not sure if it was happy hour or always like this. The beers are tasty, we tried both the dark one and the light one. Strangely enough, I thought the light one was stronger than the dark one. Worth a visit!

  • Great bar. Dark beer or light beer, those are your options. Both taste great. Loved the atmosphere. Bartenders were fun. Def recommend a visit if only for the fact that it is one of the oldest bars in NYC.

  • Whenever I travel, I'm always on the outlook for places steeped in history. So when I learned of McSorley's, I knew it would have to be a stop on my itinerary. It did not disappoint. From the moment you walk in, you feel yourself in a wonderful time warp evoking the history of a once grittier city. The owner could see I was interested in the history and so showed me around to various artifacts in the bar and on the wall: everything from Abraham Lincoln's chair to an original photo of the Babe. The two beers on tap were perfect and the sawdust on the ground was the perfect touch. Cash only! Make sure you stop in on your next visit to NYC!
