Monarch Rooftop Bar, New York City Reviews - Write a Review

  • Large rooftop where to enjoy a beer after work or later at night. Generally an hassle free entrance at the door although a couple of times they tried to charge me (no there is never a cover). The place is large enough to comfortably fit the after work crowd. Have a beer, don't bother trying a drink. Great closeup view of the Empire.

  • Good location, great view on the Empire State Building. Relaxing atmosphere. Drinks are rather expensive, as expected on a rooftop bar. It was hard to get a hold on our waitress. We had to wait very long to order drinks. I ordered a cocktail which was very good, and a beer. The beer was just terribly served. I mean, 9 dollar for a beer, IN A CAN? Are you serious? It wasn't even served in a glass... The waitress kinda just threw it on the table and left. I didn't even get the chance to ask why the beer is not served in a glass. Very rude if you ask me. I probably won't visit this place again, as there are plenty of other bars around.

  • Pretty good NYC rooftop bar. The views were awesome! But the bar is really busy and it’s difficult to get a table or your waitress’ attention. They don’t have a happy hour and the cocktails are $16, which seems pretty standard for an NYC rooftop in midtown. I wouldn’t be opposed to coming back for the views, but the service and drinks were meh.

  • Today was the first time we visited the Monarch Rooftop and it was a disappointment at every step of the way. We called them up at 6:30 p.m. to see if they take reservations. We were advised that they don't (for any time before 8 p.m.) but that we're more than welcome to sit at the bar. So we ventured over only to learn that there was a private event going on and the rooftop would not be available to the public before 7:30 p.m. After we mentioned that we just called 10min ago and no one told us about this, the manager gave us a voucher for two cocktails and said he would make sure we get a table at 7:30 p.m. So we go for a walk, come back and are being send upstairs only to learn that there is no reservation. After I explained our situation to the hostess, she sits us at a table. About 60sec later, she comes back and tells us that there are actually three private events going on, that the table we're sitting at is this not available and that the sign downstairs (which says the rooftop is open to the public starting 7:30 p.m.) is not correct. So we go back down, tell the manager what we just experienced and he blames it on the people upstairs. No apology to us this time so we left very disappointed. The Monarch Rooftop looked really nice but given what we experienced today, we won't come back and can only rate this place 1 star.
