I highly recommend this restauarnt!! Great food and service! The owner came out to ask about our experience.
I've had a unique and wonderful experience with this restaurant. I've never been to the restaurant but have spoken to them over the phone on several occasions. I live in Texas. My daughter chose to eat at Samui for her 20th birthday, which happened to be on April 1st. I googled Samui and pushed call and an amazingly kind woman with a wonderful voice answered the phone. She took our reservations for 10 and told us we could bring our own cake since my daughter is vegan. We got to Samui on my daughter's birthday and they didn't have the reservation but happened to have a nice big round table for us and took my daughters cake to refrigerator. My phone rang with a call from New York. I ignored it because I'm celebrating my daughter. Then my daughter says she received a call from New York. So I call the number back and they're checking on our reservation. I felt horrible because the restaurant prepared for us and saved the space and here I called the wrong number. They woman was so kind. She even joked about us getting on a plane quickly. They were so good humored about this whole incident that I will visit Samui when I get to New York city.
I would give it a 5-star, but I need to go back a few more times. The food is amazing and I was humbled by the experience. The Chef does not believe in MSG, but instead focuses on the expression of each ingredient and how it augments the other characters in the dish. The service was generally good, but there's room for improvement. The interior is beautiful with a lot of thought and [simple] creativity imbued the space. It's not your typical NYC Thai experience. It kinda of reminds me of Mission Chinese food in the sense that the dishes are authentic and personal to the Chef and we are the ones sharing in her joy of food.
Venue was used for a 70 person wedding reception. Modern but rustic decor, helpful accommodating event staff and clean dining room.
SAMUI is a Thai restaurant with a lounge twist. One of the few Thai places I know in recent memory that serves cocktails, this space exudes extravagance and luxury. While eclipsed by the shadow of the condos high-rise coming online across the street, the owners spared little expense to make sure this destination is one everyone who goes, will remember. I've tried a number of dishes from the menu... from small plates, to noodles to dessert. Rest assured this is the real deal and the menu, executed perfectly, speaks to the owner's Thai roots.
