  • Spent there a week and I can't recommend it enough. Beds are cosy, cleanliness is top notch. Staff is welcoming and helpful. Food served at the bar is tasty. They do excellent latte. I really enjoyed local performances. There's also a roof terrace view absolutely gorgeous NYC skyline. Thanks guys for having me. Hope to visit you soon.

  • This is a surprising little gem. I'm past the days of "youth hostels" but wanted someplace cheap for this trip to NYC since I'd only need a hotel room to sleep. This place is, for once, as advertised. Quiet, very clean, and rather hip. My roommates have been quiet and kind and all the people staying there seem the same. The Local has a bar downstairs and they gave me a free drink upon arrival which was well needed after a hot and stressful day! While I hope one day I'll be able to get slightly swankier accommodations as my net worth increases, I would not hesitate to recommend this place! (BTW, the commute is very reasonable into Manhattan. About 20 minutes on the 7 train and I was at the Javitts Center.

  • The staff at The Local qualifies for much praise. They easily could be considered as the best of hostels in New York. Sophia with a remarkable memory of returning guests. Gina for her infectious smile. Orlando for his attention to detail. Narja for her serene pleasantness. Matt a very considerate well mannered individual. Kingsley offers an impressive stature behind the bar. His thoughtfulness is as well impressive. Jeremy, who is self effacing and thoughtful as is Kingsley. His thirst for knowledge is endearing. And I must not forget Jorge, who is tireless with his joy. The Housekeeping staff whose names I'm not familiar with, derserve high praise. They are delightful. Credit is due to The GM, Matt Roth, certainly he's played a large role with what is an outstanding staff.

  • Nice drinks at the bar. Good music for a calm after noon drink. The neighborhood is a bit unwelcoming and desert. Pretty far walk from any trains.

  • The rooms are clean and cozy (we got the honeymoon suit with the queensize bed here), the bar is awesome and especially the bartenders are super nice. The kitchen is a mess but that's just one minus. When you leave the hostel or when you go to the rooftop you have a great view on Manhattan's Skyline wich is really amazing if you come home after a night of drinking. Other guests have been super nice so far and I probably would check in here again or recommend it to a friend for another stay in N.Y.!
