Sacred Heart Cathedral - Review

Standing right in the heart of Newark city, this beautiful cathedral will definitely grab your eyes as you wander around the city. It is not only because of its religious significance that the church has gained so much popularity. Its architectural work deserves credit too! Its French Gothic Revival style is the one responsible for such brilliant artwork. Previously the church was built in English-Irish Gothic style. But later on it was transformed to its present style.

Today, the cathedral has turned into one of the important sites for both religious believers and tourists. From religious point of view, the locals believe that the cathedral’s location marks that Lord Jesus is always looking after his people. From tourist point of view, the striking beauty of the cathedral is unmissable.

  • Impressive and grand fail to convey the majesty and awe of this great Cathedral. A Gothic gem, larger than St. Pat's. A chapel remembering JPII's visit and chapels dedicated to Saints of the various ethnic groups. Beautiful...absolutely beautiful. Very easy to pray in too, since it is much less crowded than St. Pats.

  • Beautiful church and the structure fill like your in the past 1900. The service is very comforting and makes you feel in peace when done. The church is not always open, so your not able to go in, check the schedule before to avoid a trip and only see it from the outside.

  • Praying and meditation. Great place to just sit and think. Beautiful in late spring on early September.

  • Beautiful and dramatic. Hard to miss as it ”pops" for the area it's in. Intended to go to Branch Brook park for the Cherry Blossom festival but ended up spending more time here. Architectural marvel. Will visit again!

  • Beautiful place of worship. The Christmas Eve mass was just magical with the choir and service. We felt safe with the level of security in place. There were police and security personnel everywhere in the area: inside and outside the church.
