This is the place where the Italian inventor and electrical engineer Guglielmo Marconi got the first transoceanic remote signal in the year 1901. The isolated Cabot Tower, which was built in the name of the 400th anniversary of John Cabot's Voyage, is the most conspicuous historic point as well as a landmark. The most easterly point of North America, the Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site is basically 11 km south of St. John. The fun fact is, the lighthouse is Newfoundland’s oldest lighthouse and it is one of the most popular places to visit while you are in the province. Wake up early in the morning and head to the lighthouse to watch the sun rising. Also, experience beautiful seabirds, see the whales playing in the sea or get mesmerized with the beauty of the icebergs. From 1835 to 1955, the lighthouse was perfectly operating and now it has been turned into a museum.

7. Get the Quidi Vidi Experience

Love fishing? Well, the Quidi Vidi is all about the fishing experience that basically sits on the north side of Signal Hill. The Quidi Vidi Battery is a newly restored one which takes care of the inlet. The inlet is the oldest house in British Canada which was probably built during the year 1740. And now it survives within the fort.

Newfoundland’s most beautiful and most important buildings when it comes to architecture, the Basilica of St. John the Baptist was built during the year 1842-92. The building was built in the form of a Latin cross which is beautifully graced by slender twin towers, that are 46 meters high. The Basilica is well known for its beautiful architecture, statues, and the gold leaf ceiling. You can see the beautiful statue of Lady of Fatima, that was a gift from the Portuguese sailors. The Basilica is now a National Historic Site.

The Witless Bay gives you the opportunity to go for a boat cruise where you can witness the puffins nesting and the whales playing all over the sea. The magnificent boat cruise will give you an experience like never before and you are surely going to be amazed by what it has to offer.

The Witless Bay Ecological Reserve consists of four islands where there are 260,000 pairs of puffins nesting. This is the largest Atlantic puffin colony of Northern America and also the second largest Leach’s storm-petrel colony. Other exciting things that you can witness here is the black-legged kittiwake and a lot of common murres who visit the province during the summer time.

12. Visit the Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve

The Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve is a place where major colonies of seabirds reside. There is about 24,000 northern gannet that loves to live in the reserve. The beautiful bird is a treat to eye – that nests either on the rocks or dive in the ocean for some meal.
