If you have a knack of wildlife watching and fishing then Great Valley Grasslands State Park is a must visit for you. The park has an area of 1,144 hectares with several rare species occupying finding a safe abode here. One can find waterfowl, deer and Coyotes roaming around the area. The park has hiking trails which are laden with spring wild flowers. Some of the rare plants found here are delta button celery (Eryngium racemosum) and alkali sacaton, an indigenous bunch grass. The endangered animal species populating the park are vernal pool fairy shrimp and Californian Tiger Salamander. Great Valley Grasslands State Park was established by joining two erstwhile state parks: Fremont ford state recreation area and San Luis Island.
