Built in 1926, the Lovell Beach House is located on the Balboa Peninsula and is one of the most famous work of architect Rudolf Schindler. This place along with the Schindler house are considered to be the best examples of modern architecture in America and it was through these structures that the idea of modern, minimal yet open architecture started trending. The reinforced concrete frames of the building built in the shape of an 8 with the garage on the northern side and the spacious garden on the southern side are its trademark. The terrace overlooking the garden, the full height windows and open sleeping porches (now enclosed) along with the view from the house- make this a luxurious place. What makes the place special is the use of open space, easy going appeal and the modern design that celebrates the view of the island.
Currently, the house is listed as a Registered Historic Place in California.
