Ben Carlson was lifeguard who died in 2014 while trying to rescue a local from a big surf. To honour his heroic action, the city made a 9-feet tall stainless steel statue of Carlson and installed it on the court street in 2015. The statue depicts him holding a surfboard and flippers in one hand. His other hand shades his eyes as he looks into the horizon. To remember him and celebrate his life for ages to come, the city also has a foundation dedicated to him.
Even though only a small pit-stop during your walk in the city, the statue is worth a visit to pay respects to the man.

The Ben Carlson Memorial Statue Reviews & Ratings
I really liked the musicians that were playing
Beautiful place and amazing beach view.
What a beautiful tribute to Ben Carlson and the sacrifice he made!
Awesome statute in memory of lifeguard Ben Carlson. Located in from of the pier entrance. Really great place to bring the whole family. Saw many people with dogs so I’m guessing this area is very dog friendly.
Nice place to have rest and looking around
