A creation that dates back to 20,000 years ago, the Lake Chuzenji is one of the most striking features of the Nikko National Park.
A result of Mount Nantai erupted lava that further blocked the river. Sprawling across a whopping 11.62-kilometer square with a circumference of 25 kilometers, this enormous lake is a must-see in Nikko for several reasons. The lake is like a painting in the fall months!
Surrounding this attraction are the many hot springs of Nikko and two of Japan’s best waterfalls - Kegon Waterfall and the Ryuzu Waterfall. The circumference of the lake makes for a great hiking adventure. You can even take up a sightseeing boat to get more of Lake Chuzenji’s beauty!

Amazing view in autumn. Breeze from the lake is soothing. Better to walk around around the lake and breath fresh air helps to refresh body and soul. Should try boating in lake and see some fish. One of most scenic view in Nikko.
Boating ( Paddle boat ) is a big fun on the wavy water! Cool breeze! Amazing scenery! Temples around !
Amazing views. A little higher and you could touch the clouds.
Lovely place to be. Surrounded by moutain range, painted with autumn color. Many good cafe and onsen resorts. You can take a stoll around the lake and visit places like one of the 3 Futarasan shires and old embassy or take a bus to Hangetsuyama see a comprehensive view of the lake. You will soon find out why foreign diplomats in the past make this their summer vacation home.
Must spend more time here Amazing lake. Only got to spend a few minutes driving past it on the way to the hotel and back however would definitely recommend spending a lot more time here as the scenery is amazing.
