Shin-kyo, Nikko Reviews

  • Ever felt like throwing a paper aeroplane into the river but thought yourself too old to do in public? Try it here when you can buy a charm shaped like a paper aeroplane, write your wishes and throw in upstream! Jokes aside, its a very nice looking bridge although it may not be worth it to go onto it (300 yen). For those collectors of calligraphy stamps, this bridge/shrine does offer one.

  • It really is a beautiful iconic spot to visit in Nikko. You can get tons of great pictures on the neighboring bridge or along the path towards the Abyss. If you're really enthusiastic you can pay to walk across it. Originally, only the emperor and few else were allowed to cross it. Since then it has been rebuilt twice. Like many historical landmarks the money helps maintain and restore it.

  • The bridge spot is close to the road, a lot of people taking picture. No much space to move. It's nice for a good shoot, or a short break. You need to pay to go to the bridge which I guess I definitely not worth it but help the maintenance of it I guess. Even if it looks nice in the pictures it is not that amazing ^^ Just go by while you go visit the temples and park where the real thing begin ^^

  • Beautiful bridge, just don't expect more than that. You can pay to take a walk on it, but the best view is from modern (and free) bridge right next to it.

  • Not as awesome as we imagined, but the whole scenery of the bridge and the surroundings is beautiful. Unfortunately, the queue for ticket to pass the bridge was long so we skipped taking pic on the bridge. My little guy had fun collecting colorful stones nearby.
