Yunoko Lake - Review

A hot water lake anyone?!

It is no news Japan has some of the world’s highly volcanic terrains, and so not surprisingly its water bodies are at atypical temperatures. Perched adjacent to the Senjogahara plateau this hot water lake is a consequence of Mount Nantai’s volcanic eruptions some 20,000 odd years ago. The same consequence is a genesis of other popular attractions of Nikko like the Yutaki waterfall.

The lakes environ has become the habitat of some beautiful birds, superannuated forests and of course the popular marshlands of the Senjogahara plateau. As you explore this area, you will be subject to the peculiar smell of Sulphur in the air. You will find several hot spring resorts here, where you can sit, take a dip and just spend the day at your own leisure.

Depending on the time of the year you visit, you can carry out some great activities around the lake like hiking, fishing, boating among others. In the autumn months, this lake is a heart-stealer from literally, every single angle!

Yunoko Lake, Nikko Reviews

  • During my visit to Nikko on year end, I have been to this Lake as well. One of the most beautiful lake I have ever seen. At that time it was frozen and was able to walk over it. Place was so silent that if you throw any stone you can hear clear sound of it and stone can go far away due to ice. Nearby there was a nice restaurant and enjoyed local food there. In summer, for hiking also this lake is good place. Must go!!!
