Well preserved and diverse set of animals. An impressive set of computer based learning activities, including learning about locals mushrooms, plants, and birds, as well as a cool program that shows the entire tree of life for many species with the ability to compare to other species. Kid friendly and they sell some great Kosmos Field guide books.
I do feel slightly harsh rating this venue down, but I guess hopefully it’s informative. Our visit here was marred by the very real understanding we were foreign, while we know tidbits of French, our trip to Luxembourg was booked at short notice and not expected. As a result we might not have polished up our knowledge as much as we should have. The arrival in the cafe hammered this home more than ever, that we were foreign. I actually felt as if the lady behind the counter with short hair and tattoos hated English speakers, a cappuccino is a cappuccino wherever you are in the world, but could this lady understand us? No, not a chance. So struggle then when asking for a limonata something clearly identified on the menu as limonata, no she did not understand, then when pointing to the limonata on the menu board, she insisted on saying either the item above or below. It was clear, it wasn’t a case of misunderstanding, she simply did not want to understand. For a short time this view marred our thoughts of Luxembourg, however as it transpired it was just that one person for the duration of our stay. The museum as a whole was very quirky and quite exciting, lots to see and do, giant bugs in cupboards, interactive games, a slide for children, great photography on the top floor. It felt a million miles away from its Luxembourg old town setting, like you’d be transported elsewhere. The main you obtain your tickets from was lovely, giving brief guidance (in English and french to help us as we struggled with pigeon dialect), directing us to toilets and cloakrooms. On the whole a great attraction, but disturbingly damaged by the actions of one slightly immoral staff member.
Really liked the exhibit but wasn't expecting it to all be in French/German, there are translated books but it's a bit difficult. Lovely exhibit though and worth just looking around
The museum is a great place to go with children. Kids are impressed by the animals, insects reptiles, birds and other animals exposed here. The interactive exhibitions have a very good effect on kids. There is also variety, on the last floor of the museum there is room for new exhibitions that change all the time.
Small place but very entertaining. Great for young children. cost only 5 Euro per adult and children for free.
