Tonga is home to many unique places, most of which have incredible tales behind them. One of such fabulous places is HaÊ»amonga Ê»a Maui that takes you back to the time when stones were used to tell the time. This wonderful stone trilithon is situated on the north of island of Tongatapu. It is made of coral limestone and has a height of 5.2 meters. The monument is said to have been built in the 13th century. The place is a short distance from “esi maka faakinanga” that used to serve as the king's throne. This trilithon resembles the famous sculpture of Stonehenge. According to the natives of Tonga, HaÊ»amonga Ê»a Maui has an astronomical significance as it was used for time and direction.
