About Nizwa Fort, Nizwa
The Nizwa fort is the crowning jewel of Nizwa. It was built in the 17th century and stands tall and proud even today. This fort is unique among other forts in Oman due to the cylindrical shape of its main tower which also happens to be the biggest to tower in a fort in Oman. It has seven wells, a number of prisons, and prosecution ground. The main tower features many defence mechanisms Omanis used in the past such as pitfalls, honey traps, and gun shooting windows. The fort also contains many exhibits and artefacts displayed in each of the rooms of the fort. There is also a nice gift shop and a permanent exhibition that illustrates the geographical history of Oman. Offering great views of the Grand mosque, it is worth climbing all the way up just to witness Nizwa in all its glory.

Nizwa Fort, Nizwa Reviews
Such a wonderful place to visit and know about Oman's history. People are very friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed the local food prepared in the fort hall.
One of the best historical sites to visit. It's rich with history. Highly Recommended. It's only an hour and a half drive from Muscat. Perfect for a day trip!
I love this place. It’s so natural and the feel is so good when you are there. Week days will be little occupied as the place is one of the National heritages of Oman. I visited last Dec 2017 for photography journey and it was amazing.
This was a great spot for for shopping and picture taking. The fort has some amazing history and great surprises as you enter and work your way up. Very clean atmosphere and very friendly staff.
Great historical site and attraction - the layout is simple and the place is very well maintained - however, you may want a hat because there is no shade at the top of the fort and you would not want to miss out of the great view of the city. Go with a good guide to get the full story on the court. A good experience, especially as there are no touts and there is a great suq next to it.
