Nizwa Souq, Nizwa Reviews
A traditional market that mainly sells local products. Look for the famous Omani sweet store that make Halwa. Always bargain when buying souvenirs or locally made things. Missing public restrooms. Then head to the Nizwa Fort of a great history lesson. Enjoy 😗
Traditional souq where you can experience Omani culture. There you can find cattle market, fruits and vegetable market, lots of souvenir shops, traditional items and even hunting guns. Fridays are special here with live stock auction and other activities. The market will be active and crowded before 7 o clock. There is a lot of photography opportunity as well.
This souq lies in the vicinity of the walls of the famous Nizwa Fort. Its building embraces both traditional and modern architectural lines. Through its many alleys and divisions, Nizwa Souq has remained for hundreds of years home to a number of local industries, such as daggers, copper, spinning, livestock sale, fish, vegetables and handicrafts.
A place full of culture and heritage. If you love photography, go earlier in the evening. Multiple food options including fresh grills.
Not sure if this is the same place where the animals are sold on Friday mornings. We couldnt make it on a Friday so had to miss the animal sale and how chaotic it is said to be. Do plan your trip on a Friday to witness the animal trade in the mornings, suggested to reach by 8AM. It takes about 90 minutes by road from Muscat. The shops close at 1PM for lunch. Not too sure what time they open after the break. The shops there have the Omani Khanjars, pottery items, souvenirs and the likes for sale. I bought some Omani Halwa from one of the vendors. Well worth your time on a Friday morning!!
