The Burghley House in Peterborough is one of the top attractions in town that was built and mostly designed by William Cecil, who was Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I. This sixteenth-century country house is located in the civil parishes of St Martin's Without and Barnack. Leading the example of an Elizabethan prodigy, this house was built and is still occupied by the Cecil family. The park surrounding this house was designed and laid out by Capability Brown. Today, the house is open to the public and features lovely art collections and several hundred paintings.
