Located northeast of Noumea, Tjibaou Cultural Center was opened in 1998 and is famous as Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center. Designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano, the place celebrates New Caledonia’s indigenous culture and the vernacular Kanak culture. A classic example of green architecture, the Tjbaou Cultural Center was made to honor Jean-Marie Tjibaou- a Kanak leader and this center is modeled after a Kanak village. The place makes for an interesting visit for people interested in history and cultures.
