The Hemingway Museum, also known as the Ernest Hemingway Foundation displays a great collection of Hemingway’s photographs, writings, diaries, letters and memoirs. The guided tour starts at his birth home and a short walk to the museum. If you want to check out the place thoroughly along with the Exhibit Hall, you should spare at least 45 minutes. The site closes at 5 p.m and the last tour starts at 4 p.m. Hemingway’s birthplace consists of the entry hall, library, parlor, dining space, Kitchen, Attic, nursery, Grace’s Bedroom, Dr. Hemingway’s Room, Abba’s Room, Maid’s Room and Uncle Tyley’s Room. No other place will bring you closer to Hemingway’s life than this place, so it’s a must visit.

Hemingway Museum Reviews & Ratings
Great to hear about the family influence and history separate from Ernest Hemingway. My tour guide (Larry Christmas) told great stories and made the information come to life through wit and experience! Everyone who works here loves the stories he wrote, the man himself or both! It shows in how they talk about the family (the main focus of the museum), how they talk about Ernest Hemingway's real life stories and how they talk about the books written by him! Very passionate people in an interesting museum!
I have followed in Hemingway's footsteps around the world to several locations and finally got the chance to visit his birth home in Oak Park this past Sunday. The house is BEAUTIFULLY restored. Our guide showed us a photo of what the living room looked like when the Hemingways lived there and then pointed out the detail in the restored living room explaining how everything was replicated as close as possible to the photo. It was amazing! It definitely makes you appreciate the art of restoring a home to a particular time period. Of course the main highlight of the tour was seeing the room that Hemingway was actually born, which was a bit surreal! Our guide was lovely as well! We could tell he was very passionate about Hemingway! Although I know a great deal about Hemingway already, I loved hearing someone else relate all the facts and details. Thank you to everyone at the birthplace museum! It was a highlight of my trip.
This was a great experience, the staff was extremely nice and the tour was really enjoyable. Get to know a little bit more of Hemingway's family right here, their way of life and their story... Recommended!
The house is a double treat. For those who are interested in Hemingway there is a tremendous amount of history shared about his early life in Oak Park. For house tour lovers, you get up close and personal to a grand 1890s Queen Anne Victorian - albeit not to everyone’s taste - but an excellent tour in a period-accurate, beautifully restored house. Our docent, Sue, was exceptional!
Amazing trip on Hemingway's birthplace. Memories of his parents, family history and personal objects that allow to understand Ernest's roots. Outstanding guide.
