Have you ever wondered how the moon would look up close? Or how do people eat in space? Or how the stars actually look? Then you, my friend, must visit the Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland.

Mostly filled with hands-on exhibits, this center gives you a chance to observe and explore the workings of different tools used in space. A particularly interesting visit for children as they will learn and experience more about the space, its environment, and how people work when they go into space. Apart from the exhibits, there is a theatre which plays small informative films, and a planetarium that hosts events.

Try and make it to the evening telescope viewings and take a look into a place so far off, it’s thrilling. A must visit to all science and space- buffs, and children too.

  • First Friday nights are a really nice opportunity to discover the Space Center for only $5! For those interested in learning more about the vast universe around us in a funny and interactive way, this is a must.

  • Good place for kids to learn about space & science. They have a little laboratory for kids for fun. So so friendly volunteers. Show time 1PM-3PM and another 5PM. I love this place so much.

  • Such a surprise to see a space center here in Oakland. The stargazing on Friday & Saturday nights is FREE, even when it's overcast or too humid the volunteers will be there with the lights on, ready to talk & answer any questions. I've taken my daughter several times & it's so exciting to see what they've pointed the scopes at!

  • Wanted to try a couple new things while we were visiting Oakland and this was one of them what a great learning experience. This is definitely a must visit

  • I went here for a field trip and it was amazing! The bathrooms are clean, fun activities, the planetarium was amazing and super cool. I didn't any of the food because my school brought us lunch. We saw 5 different fire colors, and they made fire out of a powder! Totally recommend coming here
