The Oakland Museum of California is a museum that incorporates everything of this city that is the best. Primarily divided into three sections of art, history and natural science, the museum also houses special exhibitions of designated artists.
The art section holds some of the best creations dating from the 1800s to the present. Painters, sculptures and photographers contribute to this colossal collection of more than 70000 artworks. Moving on to the next part, the history exhibits help you explore the seven stages of evolution of California from the time of the native people living in the dynamic conditions to the golden era and then to the present day. This rollercoaster ride is encompassing with more than 1.8 million items sharing their story. The gallery of history is all but static with constant additions made to include stories that have not yet been told.
When you enter the gallery of natural science, a unique opportunity of interaction between you and the natural world awaits. The gallery is a proud presenter of California being one of the top ten hotspots for biological diversity in the country. Study and research artefacts of birds, mammals, eggs, reptiles, amphibians and plants go beyond 100000.
The museum gives an authentic experience and is a must-visit to adults and children alike.

Oakland Museum Of California, Oakland Reviews - Write a Review
I really enjoy going to this museum. On Fridays Nights after 5pm, you can get in for $5. Food trucks will line up outside so you can enjoy the museum and dinner. Th museum has multiple levels and tends to give you a nice history of the Bay Area and California in general. On one of the levels, there are a lot of artifacts and engaging activities that tell the history of California from Gold Rush Era to the Silicon Valley Technology. This Museum has a bit of everything to keep everyone engaged.
Great place to take kids on the weekend with plenty of fun exhibits in rotation and lots of educational opportunities. If you aren't looking to browse the exhibits, this is an excellent place to visit to relax and study at. This year Laney College students get free admission, so I've been coming here every Thursday on my lunch break to work on assignments and rest.
A great local resource for kids and adults alike! Definitely worth a trip whether you're living locally or just visiting. Plenty of hands-on exhibits as well as a sculpture garden, multiple galleries, and a variety of interesting temporary exhibits.
I love OMCA Friday nights! The exhibits are interesting and have depth, unlike many other museums that seem to oversimplify things/are geared more towards kids. We came here twice because we couldn't finish the first time we visited, but by then they had already updated the museum with new exhibits! Draws a very diverse crowd, with lots of food and entertainment if you tire of browsing inside the museum. $5 with a student ID and perfect for a date night.
It's huge! I had no idea this was in my backyard this whole time! Such an awesome community feature. It's like 3 museums in one. I will definitely be going back!
