The Funen Village - Review
A trip into the rural European countryside past for a family picnic isn’t easily had unless you’re at the Funen Village. This is the sort of place that Hans Christian Anderson tends to describe in his stories swans and ducks in ponds, cobblestone roads etc. Go on a sunny day; the village is at it’s liveliest best then. About twenty-five charming little cottages and buildings set among rural farm and field implements preserve Danish roots almost perfectly.
Rent a cycle and ride it around the village and the river. Find a nice picnic spot; you might have rabbits coming up to you for hand-outs. Runa few errands if you want; pick up a wheelbarrow and roll it to where it’s needed; pop into a kitchen and see if you can’t help out someone with their lunch preparations. Wanna feel fancy? Pay 20DKK and get a horse drawn carriage to take you around. You might want to bring your own food though unless you’re dining at the Sortebo Kro, reputedly Odense’s best eatery.
