This is one of the drive-by stops on the tour of Odessa architectural wonders. It is a simple but elegant looking house at first sight, aside from the massive sculpture in front of its doors. It is a sculpture of two giant men trying to support a Celestial globe on their backs. Note the equatorial band angled at an axis on the globe. The globe in turn is propping up the corner bay window balcony above the statue. It is an unusual and unexpected and striking sight in the middle of the road. It is a work by the architect LL Vlodekom, who wanted to explore Netherlands architecture in the 14th century.  There is not much else to do here so take a picture and move on.

  • There have been heaps of photos of these guys, and they're awesome. Sadly, the rest of the building has started falling apart.

  • Good architecture but condition of the building quite poor - a lot of cheap repairs ruined the effect.
