One of the Ryukyu gusuku found around the region, the Iha Castle is located on a cliff between Iha and Ishikawa and overlooks the Ishikawa Isthmus. Excavations around the area give an estimate of 13th to 15th century of the construction.
Currently, the cliff has only ruins left of the original castle but a hike around these is still perfect for a day trip when in Okinawa. The government has placed a Torii gate with a plaque that explains the importance of the place and for most, a walk here to see the isthmus is reason enough to make the climb. When here don’t miss the Iha Nuru Tomb site located 200 meters to the north of the ruins.
