The Sango Batake is an artificial pool made to keep the water at a temperature that is 4 to 5 degrees lower than the temperature of the ocean. The place cares for 50,000 coral reefs and colourful fishes that make these reefs their home. Currently, there are 120 types of corals that are cultured and protected at the center that support 200 types of organisms that include plankton-eating fishes, sea urchins, anemones, sea cucumbers, jellyfishes, giant clams, crustaceans and a variety of algae.
The place takes in endangered corals and gives them a protected pool environment to grow. Currently, the center has around 10 pools that can be viewed from a safe distance. After about two years, these corals are reintroduced to their natural habitat. The best part about the center is that it has walkways that line the pool giving you an easy way to observe these beautiful creatures closely. You can also touch sea urchins, sea cucumbers and giant clams during your visit.
