Urasoe City, like many other nearby cities, is significant for its archaeological findings. You can find fossils of the bones of a goat, a dog, a dolphin, a mouse and a wild boar at the entrance along with a number of other historic items that relive the rich past of the area.

The exhibits are segregated to form 4 sections- the shell mound age, old Ryukyu age, modern Ryuku world and the modern Okinawa. Overall the exhibits have rare articles that date back 7000 years! Take a walk here to see beautiful earthenware, ornaments made from shells, rare tiles and chinaware that date back to the 14th century, a vast collection of decorated “Urns” that formerly contained the remains of people who lived in the early 17th century (which forms the beginning of the modern time in the Ryukyu period), a number of old but mechanised tools and a collection of everyday objects including combs, hair pins, rings, bracelets, jewellery pieces, traditional clothing and hats. A collection of small pots and beautiful hand-painted jewellery boxes made from fine china complete the museum.
