Dating back to the 13th century, the Urasoe Yodore Hall is a historic cemetery and was repaired in 1620 by the then King of the Ryukyu Dynasty. Afters his death, the King himself was buried here. The side holes in the quay wall is what forms the entrance to the cemetery. Walk in and you see pagodas made from stone that form tombstones to the buried. The Naka king’s grave is on the left side while the grave of the “King of the King” is placed on the right side.
The bronze statues and sculptures placed in the tomb show just how influenced the people were by Buddhism at that time and are currently part of the historic cultural property of Okinawa. Don’t forget to explore the rest of the castle grounds and the nearby park when you visit the cemetery.
