Coso Range Wilderness Area is special and unique because of its stupendous volcanic displays. High levels of erosion have led to these volcanic displays to come under the spotlight. Walking through the park you can enjoy the views of a number of valleys and washes. The peak of the park offers the most stunning images of the Owens Valley and the eastern Sierra Nevadas, which are picture-perfect. While the flora is rich in creosote, low desert shrubs, cactus and Joshua trees, the vibrant and colorful Vermillion Canyon at the edge of the wilderness is the epitome of beauty. The best hiking season is spring and fall, when the entire park is blooming.
