The National Rhododendron Gardens or the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden encompassing over 36 hectares is blessed with over fifteen thousand rhododendrons, twelve thousand azaleas, three thousand camellias, 250 thousand daffodils and numerous cherry plantations. A Mecca for plant lovers and gardening enthusiasts, the National Rhododendron Gardens take up different looks in different seasons and even when the flowers are not blooming, you can enjoy watching the bark textures, foliage shapes, seed capsules and the native ducks, storks, cranes and kingfishers. Spring is undoubtedly the best time to visit owing to the full grandeur of the flowers while the summer is for walking through the rainforest atmosphere, picnicking on the Cherry law, wandering through conifers and marvelling at the Hydrangeas. Autumn is for the fall colours of the deciduous trees and their reflection on the lake while winter is for walking through the mist and exploring the Vireya, Cyclamen and Hellebore.

National Rhododendron Gardens Reviews & Ratings
What a gorgeous place! We took a small group of people from Indonesia here and they were amazed! We just missed the blooming period by a week or two but it was still a great experience. I could spend all day here! Such a picturesque location with knowledgeable staff and a cute gift shop! Will definitely come back here when it’s in bloom.
What a fantastic garden. We went when the Rhododendrons weren’t even in flower. It was still a spectacular space. The Rangers do a fabulous job of maintaining the gardens in a pristine manner. The day we were there it was freezing cold. But we still manage to have a fantastic day.
Simply stunning in all 4 seasons. We have been before in spring, and we’re not expecting winter to be as good. But went in July and found it to be atmospheric with mist and a light drizzle against a whole host of deciduous leafless trees, lovely creeks, tree ferns and manicured lawns, with the odd flower just starting to bloom 😊
Beautiful park! It's a nice walk through the Botanical Gardens, especially if you are up at Olinda for a Coffee. The park itself has some wonderful colours with two small lakes in it. You can get some incredible shots at the right times of year when all the trees are in full colour. It would be slightly nicer of the park was a little more well kept. However that would be at the cost of no more free admission so definitely worth it to see as it is now!
Such a peaceful place. Lots of birds and butterflies. Entire garden is surrounded with trees of all sorts and beautiful flowers. Great for walking around. Carry picnic rug and good book.
