The Nisqually Reach Nature Center on the western bank of the Nisqually Estuary in Puget Sound is a non-profit organization providing nature and wildlife based education to the kids, youth and young adults for over 35 years both in the classroom and at the Luhr Beach. The students can learn about the estuarine system and its contribution to the ecology and also take part in the field trips to learn about the fauna thriving here. In the Beach Seining Surveys, they can set the seining net on the shore and collect fish, shrimp, gunnels and many other estuarine creatures as well as record the characteristics of the water and the creatures. Nisqually Reach Nature Center also provides quadrate, collection cup and trowel to collect the tiny shore crabs under the rocks and the mud along with mussels, clams, moon snails, ghost shrimps, ribbon worms and many other invertebrates.
