Built in early 15th century as a colony of Benedictine monks, the abbey is the origin of name of Opatija. Opatija means Abbey in Croatian language.
Renovated several times; little remains of its original structure. A copy of the relief of “Pieta” by Croatian Sculptor Ivan Mestrovic is held in the church. It depicts dying Jesus Christ with his mother Mary and Mary Magdalene.
Prayers, masses and chamber concerts are held here.
