Located just next to the Church of Sveti Jakov (St. James/ St. Jacov/St. Jacob), this park is the centre point of many of Opatija’s prominent buildings like the Hotel Imperial, Hotel Milenij, Juraj Sporer Arts Pavilion, and Hotel Kvarner. It has several entrances and the park is divided into two parts. The lower part faces the sea in the front of the Juraj Sporer Arts Pavilion whereas the upper part presents neo-baroque fountain of 1889, the work of the sculptor Hans Ratkausky.
The fountain is set on an octagonal plateau with sculpture of Helios and Selene, the God of the Sun and Goddess of the Moon in Greek mythology, an allegory of day and night.
Well-maintained lawns, flower beds, variety of plants, trees and tall pines add to the alluring effect of the Park. The Altas cedar next to the fountain with its huge branches touching the ground adorns the pathway leading to the sea.
Ideal for a casual stroll, picnic or a relaxing afternoon!
