About Emanuel Vigeland Museum, Oslo

What a strange and moving museum. Vigeland is famous for his spectacular stained-glass masterpiece artworks. In 1926, he decided to build the house that would not only host his future works, but also his own mausoleum.

The main attraction of the museum is a dimly lit 800 metre square room. It’s falls depict frescoes in an intensely eroticised journey from life to death. The effect is intensified by the bronze figures in the room. This is called the Tomba Emmanuelle, and it took the artist 20 years to paint.

  • Very fascinating place, especially when the hall is empty. The frescoes in combination with the quietness and acoustic is worth a visit. During the stay you will notice new details all the time.

  • Absolutely fantastic mausoleum. The secrecy of this place makes it even more worthwhile. The length of the visit really is up to you, and although I didn't get a personal tour, I definitely think it would be worth the extra kroner. A must for everyone who wants a less touristy "museum" in Oslo!

  • Incredible. No photos allowed but take a seat in the middle of the space and shut your eyes. Nothing quite like it!

  • Out of no where this spesial place..

  • Magic place!
