Ossiach Abbey is a former Benedictine monastery in Ossiach which dates back to almost one thousand years. Though it is not clear when the monastery was originally established, the first mention of the place can be found in 1215. The structure suffered a huge loss in the fourteenth century after it was engulfed in a fire. It was rebuilt in the Gothic style, traces of which can still be seen today. The place was used for different purposes throughout the centuries. Today, it is one of the venues where a popular music festival - Carinthian Summer - is held annually. You can visit this monastery to explore the ancient structure for a couple of hours.
